Frequently Asked
QUESTIONS

This feature is always 'under construction'. If there are questions you would like to see added to what we have already listed, please let us know in an e-mail addressed to editor@activizers.com

Now it's your turn to answer a question. The e-mails we receive from the visitors to Hotels-near-Airports.com are very important. We take all comments very seriously and at times, resulting from these e-mails, we add new features or change old features. For instance, we added the amenities columns because many of our correspondents asked for them. Is there something you would like to see added- or changed? Please, take a few moments and send us your comments.

Thank you,

How do I access the information about an airport?
In our effort to make access to this information as simple as possible we have designed the 'home' or index page of the Hotels-near-Airports web site to allow many different ways of accessing this information.

On the 'home' page - the page you'll see when accessing www.Hotels-near-Airports.com - are links to the many different ways we have organized these directories. Top center provides your choice of U.S., Canadian, European (limited to London, Paris and Rome) and Mexican airports.

Below the country links is a link to our interactive map of airports in the United States. Below that link are links to the top 14 airports in the United States and, below that, are links to directories sorted by CITY, STATE, and the official IATA airport code.

Running down the left margin of every page is an alphabetic navigation bar which allows you to go directly to any city from any page of the Hotels-near-Airports web site.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I make a hotel reservation?
From the list of cities (airports), select the city of interest.
  • A list of hotels near that airport appears. This list may be supplemented by additional hotels which, though more distant from the airport, do offer free VAN service to/from the airport passenger terminal.
  • 'Left Click' on the hotel of interest.
  • An overView of what that property offers appears. ReView the overView and if the hotel seems to be acceptable, click on the green 'Check Rates' button to the right near the top of the page.
  • Your PREFERENCES form appears.
  • Your previously entered preferences, if any, will be displayed but you may change any or all if you wish.
  • If you didn't do so previously, enter the dates for which you want the hotel room, number of adults to stay in the room, etc.
  • Enter or select any other of the listed preferences.
  • Left click the 'Check Availability' button (just above the yellow 'RETURN' button near the bottom of the page).
  • A list of available rate plans next appears.
  • Select the rate plan which best suits your needs by clicking on the 'Book Now' link in the far right column
  • At any time, if you feel uncomfortable using the 'Internet approach' to making a reservation, you may telephone our 24/7 help desk: 1-888-254-0637 if in the USA or Canada - or 01-561-753-3993 if in any other country. PLEASE give the operator Promo Code 5143 to ensure you get the same discount as if you had made the reservation 'on-line'.

You will find these telephone numbers near the bottom of every page. If you ever need assistance, call us. We're here to help.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I contact a reservationist?
If you would prefer to contact one of our reservationists to assist you in making your reservation, you may telephone our 24/7 help desk: 1-888-254-0637 if in the USA or Canada - or 01-210-507-5997 if in any other country. PLEASE give the operator Promo Code 5143 to ensure you get the same discount as if you had made the reservation 'on-line'. You will find these telephone numbers near the bottom of every page. If you ever need assistance, call us. We're here to help.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I translate your 'price range' codes into dollars? (the $$ column)
The price range codes (E, M, U & L) are guides to the price bracket of that hotel. Conventionally, the determining room rates have been set at Economy = under $50, and the other at $50+, $100+ and $150+ respectively. We have seen many hotels setting their room rates at $49.50, etc., to get their properties classified as offering economy rates, - and the same with the other brackets.

We use the following definitions:

  • Economy = $48 and below
  • Mid-range = $49 through $94
  • Upscale = $95 to $145
  • Luxury = anything above $145

These classifications do not categorize the hotel because many hotels have rooms in most or all of these ranges. Some even maintain special floors for those you wish to enjoy special amenities - and can afford to pay - the Luxury rates.

Also, these classifications are not fixed in concrete for two reasons.

Firstly, room rates change at most hotels; the more they need guests, the lower the rates so if there is a special event in the area and they expect to have a full house, the rates will be higher for that period of time.

Secondly, if all the properties near a given airport are very expensive, we move the dividing lines up a little bit.

And, finally, we do not consider 'government rates' which are usually significantly lower. If you are a government employee, you probably already know what your rate will be.

Remember, price is not everything. What is important is what you can expect to get for the money you spend. So reView the descriptions very carefully. To assist you, we have provided Travelers' ReView s. We suggest you read them carefully.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are Traveler's ReView s so important?
Near the top of the hotel 'OverView ' page is a special data block in which the hotel name, address, price range and, usually, photograph are displayed. Below these data items are five links: OverView , View Map, Amenities, Add to My List and Travelers ReView s.

The Travelers ReView s link will also tell you how many reView s have been entered by previous guests of that hotel. Click on the link to read these reView s.

We limit reView s to 100 words but they can be very informing. Remember, however, that most people are more inclined to make the effort to enter a reView if they are unhappy with something than when everything was just fine. Despite this probability of negative bias, these reView s can help you avoid an unpleasant experience.

We would appreciate it if you, too, would take a few moments to add a few comments about your hotel stay.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I find other hotels in the general area of a hotel which is 'sold out'
Sometimes all the hotels listed under the city you have selected are sold out. Special events and very popular destinations (such as popular beaches) will frequently be sold out.

Or, there may well be times when, in searching for a place to stay, you find a hotel in the desired location but you desire amenities that hotel doesn't offer - or you don't want to pay that much - or, for any reason, you really would like to try other hotels that are located near the area of your search. For many locations, we now have a way to do this.

  • You will have View ed the page informing you that there is no availability for the dates you requested.
  • Below that statement are four options:
    1. make changes to your dates ...
    2. check rates at neighboring hotels
    3. begin a new hotel search
    4. call and speak with our customer care representative
  • Check availability in nearby hotels by selecting option #2.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I reView - or cancel - a reservation I made previously?
We use Pegasus, Sabre, and other hotel room brokers. Each of these companies has a different approach to making, reView ing and canceling on-line reservations. For specific instructions for the page you are View ing, select 'Help' - the right-most word of the top line of the navigation group near the top of that page. If you made your reservation using our Courtesy Help Desk, you must phone them to correct or cancel that reservation. 1-888-254-0637 (toll-free) if in the USA or Canada - or 1-972-894-1173 if in any other country. In all cases, the promo code 5143 is necessary to help the reservationist find your reservation.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are the city names omitted from your map of the USA?
Space. There really isn't enough space to fit in all the airport codes we would like to have appear on the map. Computer monitors, being so limited in size, just do not have the display capacity for that much detail and have the labels legible to the View er.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

What is a 'clickable' map and how do I use it?
Our 'clickable' maps have links to other pages with relevant information. If you place your mouse arrow over the link and left-click your mouse you will go to that page. Above each map are instructions telling you what to 'click' on to View hotels near the airport or to View hotels offering discounts in that city.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Your map of (any city) is inaccurate.
You're absolutely correct. All of our maps of the local area are designed to help you see the relationship of the local airport(s) to the primary city as well as any other communities within a reasonable distance. We only include the highways which help orient you to relative positions of these communities and the airport(s) and, usually, only include the communities in which there are hotels which offer discounts. The larger and more detailed the maps the longer it takes them to load. Some - because of the number of communities represented, can take over a minute to load if you are using a dial-up modem. (All maps load almost instantly if you are a cable and DSL user.) If you are using a dial-up modem you may wish to avoid accessing the maps.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How can I know what city is represented by one of the airport 'codes'?
Most Internet browsers released within the last four years support the 'title' feature. By holding your mouse cursor over the airport code, the name of the city will appear in a few seconds. There are also directories organized by the official (IATA) airport code, by city name and by state (in the United States). See links on the 'home' page.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why aren't all hotels or motels listed?
We only list hotels and motels offering discounted rates through the major room brokers (e.g., Pegasus, Saber World Choice). Some of these hotels offer discounts on a temporary basis so you may get an error message telling you that a specific hotel "is not available at this time". You are then given the opportunity to check other properties in that geographic area. Other factors affecting the availability of discounts are seasonal popularity and special, very popular, activities in the area. Discounts are resumed when the hotels 'get hungry' for guests' again.

There is a full-time, continuing effort to bring you the best possible room rates.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are some hotels and motels listed in barely legible gray type?
These are properties concerning which there is one or more unresolved situations. Until the situations are completely resolved, we do not accept reservations for them.

We make every effort possible to maximize the probability that the hotel or motel you select will prove equal to your expectations.

If you encounter a problem, send an e-mail to us at:

HELP@activizers.com

Though we have no authority over these properties, we are able to exert some influence in resolving 'situations'.

Who and what is Wheatley Memorial Institute?
Wheatley Memorial Institute of Information Sciences was created in 1974 as a not-for-profit corporation under section 501 (C) (3) of the 1954 Internal Revenue Code.
